Business and research
Zuidas is rapidly emerging as an international centre of business and research. International law firms, major banks and leading consultancies have already made it their 'homebase' in Europe, while many innovative businesses in the small and medium-sized enterprise sector have also opted to locate here. Approximately half of the four hundred companies in the district have a foreign parent company. The private sector clearly recognizes the potential of Zuidas, with its vibrant dynamic, unrivalled accessibility, comprehensive public amenities and leading knowledge development facilities on the doorstep. The mix makes Zuidas unique: where else can you find a location with so much?
The main clusters of offices and commercial premises are in Strawinsky, Mahler4 and Vivaldi. Within a few years, the total available floorspace will have increased by over one million square metres. Zuidas will then provide employment opportunities for some 70,000 people from throughout the Amsterdam region. Even today, some 30,000 people work here. Walking through Zuidas, a visitor may hear a variety of languages being spoken, since the multinationals which have already located here have a very international staff. The household names in the district include AkzoNobel, APG, Tata Steel, ABN AMRO and Google.
Staff will certainly appreciate the convenience of working in Zuidas. Station Zuid provides public transport connections of all types, including a rapid train connection which whisks one to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport in just six minutes. The A10 peripheral highway is close at hand and there is ample parking space (much underground). Zuidas also offers excellent housing, childcare facilities and (international) schools. The presence of VU University and its affiliated teaching hospital ensure the best possible cross-pollination between commerce and research.
